Our Story Starts in Plettenberg Bay
Tadj, Frances, and Wojtek Orzechowski started Salt to share their coastal lifestyle with the people who come, go, and enjoy the beautiful town they call home.

2017
Humble Beginnings
Like all good things in life, Salt started simply. But then board shorts for a school project became a collection of boardies, tees, and caps all with fun patterns and illustrations. The designs were simple but the quality was high.
That December, Tadj and Wojtek were up and on the road early every Saturday taking Salt’s first products to the market in St Francis. They’d sell like crazy and then hit the surf before driving back to Plett. It became clear that there was a huge demand for Salt’s lived-in and thoughtful designs.

2019
International Inspiration
Tadj finished school in 2018 and travelled to Bilou in Mentawai islands to work at a surf lodge. After a couple of seasons there, he worked in a ski resort in Whistler, Canada. He never let go of Salt and used the places he saw and people he met as inspiration to expand the range. Every December, he’d bring fresh designs to the family shop.

2020
The Salt Shop
By the end of 2020, people's lifestyles were shifting and the demand for comfortable leisure clothing was growing. The Orzechowskis took the plunge and converted the family shop to focus solely on Salt. More space meant the introduction of Salt womenswear and an even bigger selection of menswear. It also gave Tadj more room to experiment with seasonal pieces.
Sustainable Fabrics
Salt has chosen to use sustainable cotton, linen and bamboo for most of our range. Natural fabrics are better for the environment and feel better against the skin.
Locals Only
Our garments are produced in South Africa using locally made fabrics as much as possible. This is part of our commitment to uplifting the people in our local community.
Small Batches
Producing in small batches means we can keep a close eye on the details and quality of every garment while creating less waste. It also gives us more freedom to create.
